Turning Japanese is a classic combination

Watsonian-Squire unveil Yamaha DragStar Outfit at NEC

Press release 25 October 2005

Watsonian-Squire is one of the longest surviving companies in the tumultuous history of the British motorcycle industry.  They made their first sidecar in 1912 and production has continued uninterrupted for the past 93 years.  Today the Company is Europe’s largest manufacturer of motorcycle sidecars and in an ironic twist of fate, is now supplying sidecars to Yamaha’s motorcycle accessories division for sale in the Japanese market!

For 2006 Watsonian-Squire will be producing an outfit for the UK market, combining the XVS1100A DragStar Classic with their popular GP700 chair.  Yamaha’s big V-twin delivers 62.6 HP which, combined with 85Nm torque @ 2,500rpm and shaft drive, make it well suited to sidecar work.  Up front, the Ø 298mm dual disc front brakes provide excellent stopping power.

Both the XVS1100A DragStar Classic and GP700 sidecar blend time-honoured design with state-of-the-art engineering. The GP700 is manufactured from GRP with a steel perimeter frame, full suspension and electrical package, while its alloy struts and large wire spoke wheel give it a timeless appearance.

Classically styled sidecars are becoming increasingly popular, particularly with families who want to enjoy motorcycling together and the wide bodied GP700 seats an adult and child, or two children.  This style now accounts for two thirds of Watsonian-Squire’s annual production, approximately 40% of which is exported.

Guide price for the Yamaha DragStar 1100 + GP 700 outfit is £11,105- on the road.
