Guinness World Records confirmed that a brand new record was been set - for a motorcycle towing a trailer!
Date: Thursday 28 February 2002
Conditions: dry, 9 degrees Celsius, 16-MPH S/W wind.
Motorcycle: Kawasaki ZZ-R1100, 1052cc, 147PS.
Trailer: Squire D21, 50KG (+ 35 KG ballast)
Rider: Kevin Smith of Motor Cycle News
The record was set at Millbrook Proving Ground, near Bedford (UK), where experienced MCN road tester, Kevin Smith, rode a Kawasaki ZZ-R1100 motorcycle, towing a Squire D21 trailer, at an average speed of 139.5 mph.
Squire MD Peter Rivers Fletcher is particularly pleased with the result. "This is an amazing record, because what you're looking at is a regular bike towing a standard production trailer around a 2-mile circuit at an average speed of 139 mph. To achieve that average, speeds of up to 150 mph must have been reached on several occasions during the test".
