Adaptability

Motorcycle adapted for disability

A sidecar stabilizes a motorcycle, making it suitable for riders with mobility challenges affecting their feet or legs. However, we can also significantly adapt the controls to accommodate riders with other disabilities.

Watsonian Sidecars offer a range of modifications that enable riders with disabilities to maintain their independence and enjoyment of motorcycling. We will work you to help you choose a suitable motorcycle or scooter, if they don’t already own one. For example, automatic maxi scooters, like the Suzuki Burgman, and motorcycles, such as the Honda NC 750 with Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), saves a huge amount of work fitting thumb-operated gear shifters.

“We’ll keep you riding”

Replacing the front brake lever with a K-Lever2 combines both front and rear brake levers on one side of the handlebar
The thumb-operated Kliktronic electric gear shifter provides an alternative to the traditional hand-operated clutch and foot-operated gear lever.
The discreet modifications won’t affect the overall appearance of the outfit

Watsonian can also customize comfort and convenience features, such as transforming footrests into foot plates or building a wheelchair carrier for the sidecar’s back.

Should you wish to carry a mobility scooter, one of our Platform Chassis may be suitable.

VAT Free Adaptations

If a disabled person who’s not a wheelchair user needs a motor vehicle to be adapted to meet the needs of their condition, the adaptations can be zero-rated (in other words, we would not charge VAT on your bill for the conversion). We would deal with this for you.

Our friendly and experienced team will be happy to spend time discussing the best options to suit your needs. All conversions are carried out in our workshop, and outfits are road tested before leaving the factory, to ensure everything functions as it should.
